Cyclone Fani is considered the strongest to hit India in the past 53 years.
INDIA – Cyclone Fani, described as the most powerful storm to strike India in over four decades, made landfall on the eastern coast near the city of Puri, in the state of Odisha, leaving at least three people dead, according to local news sources.
According to RT, the cyclone has uprooted hundreds of trees, caused severe damage to power infrastructure and homes, and brought storm winds reaching up to 175 km/h (109 mph), as reported by The Hindu.

Government officials in Odisha stated that at least 10,000 villages and 52 towns across nine districts are expected to be affected. Residents have been advised to stay indoors throughout Friday as the storm continues its course.
Airports along the cyclone’s path are being shut down, and all flights from Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s capital city, have been suspended since midnight Thursday.
